Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for anyone who has never driven, or who has driven very little. You'll need your provisional driving licence before your first lesson. Nervous? That's completely normal. Tomas has heard it before and knows exactly how to put you at ease.

It's also a great fit for: nervous or anxious learners, young drivers starting out, mature learners, international students adapting to UK roads, and automatic licence holders wanting to learn manual.

What I cover

Every lesson is personalised to where you are right now. Over the course of your sessions you'll cover car controls and safety checks, moving off and stopping, junctions and roundabouts, all required manoeuvres, and mock tests as you approach test-ready standard.

Why 2-hmy lessons?

All of lessons are a minimum of 2 hours. Longer lessons lead to faster progress. You spend more time behind the wheel and less time stopping and starting. In the long run, 2-hmy lessons mean you need fewer of them and spend less overall.

How many driving lessons do you actually need before your test?

📅 April 2026· 5 min read· By Tomas Zeman

The DVSA publishes a figure of around 45 hours of professional lessons, plus 22 hours of private practice. It's a useful starting point, but in reality the number varies enormously from student to student.

Why the official number can mislead you

45 hours is an average. Some students pass comfortably in 30. Others take 60 or more. The figure depends on your age, confidence, how often you practise privately, where you're learning, and , most importantly, the quality of your instruction.

What actually affects how many lessons you need?

  • Lesson length: 2-hmy lessons produce significantly more progress per pound than 1-hmy lessons, which is why all of lessons are minimum 2 hours.
  • Private practice: Even 30 minutes of supervised practice between sessions can dramatically reduce your total lesson count.
  • Where you're learning: South West London means busy junctions and bus lanes from day one, harder than quieter areas but makes you a more capable driver faster.
